Sutong Bridge is the largest bridge project with the largest scale and the most complicated comprehensive construction conditions in the history of bridge construction in China. The total length of Sutong bridge is 8,206 meters, of which the main bridge adopts 100+100+300+1088+300+100+100 (the main bridge is about 1088 meters) =2088 meters of double-tower, double-rope, cable-stayed bridge with steel box girder. The main hole span (1080m), the main tower’s height (300.4m), the stay cable’s length (577m), and the pile group foundation’s plane size (113.75 m * 48.1 m) of cable-stayed bridge all rank first in the world.
The north-south approach bridge adopts 30, 50 and 75 meters prestressed concrete continuous beam bridge; and the T-type rigid frame girder bridge (140+268+140=548 meters) is adopted for the special channel bridge, which ranks second in the world of similar bridge engineering. Dynatronic cooperated with Zhonggang Second Habor Company, Tongji University, Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport and other units to monitor the cable forces of Sutong Bridge during the box girder hoisting process at construction stage, as well as the load and modal tests before the bridge was completed and opened to traffic.
A total of 136 measuring points (68 pairs) were arranged in this test. 15 points were tested in each batch, and the test was completed in 9 batches (15 points in each batch, 136 measuring points in total with a reference point). In the test, a measuring point was set every other stay cable (the rightmost stay cable of Nantong and the leftmost stay cable of Suzhou need to be measured ). The sampling time of each batch was 40 minutes; the sampling frequency was 200Hz; and the sampling method was continuous. The whole test lasted about 11 hours.
Before the completion of Sutong Bridge, of the 200,000 vehicles a day crossing the river in jiangsu, coastal expressways account for only 10%. And the vehicles heading north or south choose to ferry, or detour to Jiangyin bridge, Runyang bridge or even the three bridges in Nanjing. But now, the original traffic pattern across the river in Jiangsu has totally changed with Sutong Bridge.
